Back to the drawing board for Pep?

Listen to the full analysis above via the Football Show podcast

While much of the talk will centre on the ideological war between possession football and counter-attacking, European football writer told us that last night's 4 - 0 for Real Madrid against Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich was simply a case of bad defending when it came to the first two goals.

Sergio Ramos' brace of headers from set pieces helped put Real Madrid out of sight early on.

"The first two goals were just poor defending from Bayern Munich and when you think of this level of the competition that you can't defend a corner it was as though the art of defending corners is something too inferior for Pep Gaurdiola's style of play because he's so busy concentrating on what's going on at the other end," said Lyttleton.

The defeat was Pep's worst defeat as a manager and allowed Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid to move one step closer to a long-awaited Decima or tenth European Cup trophy.

But where does this loss leave Guardiola?

"This is only year one of his spell at Bayern Munich. He hasn't got all the players he wants. Robert Lewandowski is coming and there might be a few others. But I think Guardiola can learn quite a lot from what's happened over the two legs and it's not often he gets out-coached or failed to learn from his mistakes. But I think he did in both legs," said Lyttleton.
