Brad Friedel to retire at the end of the season

Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel has announced he is to retire at the end of the season.

The American will retire in the Premier League record books, having made 310 consecutive appearances in the league. Throughout the spell, he played for Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa and current club Tottenham Hotspur.

He played every league match in eight consecutive seasons from 2004/05 to 2011/12.

Since the arrival of Hugo Lloris at White Hart Lane, Friedel's opportunities have lessened, having not made any appearances this season.

Capped 82 times by the USA, including three World Cup Finals, Brad began his career in England at Liverpool in 1997 before joining Blackburn in 2000.

He won the League Cup at Blackburn playing 356 times for the club, scoring once his only goal as a professional.

He joined Aston Villa in the summer of 2008, before making his final transfer to the London club in 2011.
