Cancelling Euro 2016 would be ''playing the game of the terrorists'' says tournament organiser

Authorities who are tasked with organising and hosting the Euro 2016 soccer tournament, insist that they will not bend to the will of terrorists and the event will go ahead as planned.

A wave of attacks in Paris on Friday night, resulted in the deaths of 129 people and injured as many as 350 others in the second terrorist attack to hit the city in 2015. In January, Islamist extremists invaded the city and gunned down 18 people after storming through the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and a Jewish supermarket.

But in the wake of the horrific events this weekend, Euro 2016 President Jacques Lambert told a French radio station that the association would prevail against those who try to inflict fear and slaughter on the world.

'Wondering whether Euro 2016 must be cancelled is playing the game of the terrorists. The risk went up one level in January, it has just gone higher.'

Four people died in a suicide bombing close to the Stade de France on Friday night while a friendly game between France and England took place inside the stadium. The explosions could be heard during the game.

The final of Euro 2016 is expected to take place in the Stade de France next July and Lambert is confident that the stadium remains a safe venue.

'We will take the necessary decisions for Euro 2016 to take place in the best safety conditions. Security in stadiums works well, the risk is more in the streets, in spontaneous gatherings.'
