Carl Frampton: I have a better boxing brain than Leo Santa Cruz

Carl Frampton says he has a "better boxing brain" than Leo Santa Cruz and holds the "psychological edge" heading into this Saturday's rematch in Las Vegas.

Frampton will defend his WBA featherweight in the early hours of Sunday morning Irish time, when he takes on the Mexican in Las Vegas.

The Belfast boxer recorded a decision victory over Santa Cruz last summer and faces into this fight claiming that his performances can only get better.

"I think psychologically I already have an edge," he told the BBC. "When I spar and fight opponents a second time, I always improve.

"I believe I have a better boxing brain than Leo Santa Cruz and I'm going to use that on the night. I feel I'm going to win more convincingly.

"I don't think that he can change things too much. He does have a distinct style, a style that has seen him become a three-weight world champion.

"But I won't allow him to bully me because he's bullied guys at the lighter weights. He's bigger than them and pushes them around.

"But I'm the bigger man on fight night. I'm heavier, I'm stronger. He might be taller than me but he can't push me back and that's the difference."

Frampton says a second victory, perhaps even a knockout, would go some way in creating his legacy as one of the all-time great boxers.

"The last fight was a big deal. It was a huge deal for me and this would cement me in the top five pound-for-pound in the world if I beat Leo Santa Cruz [again].

"If I can do it in style, that's even more impressive. But I'm excited and I'm confident. I can't wait to get going."
