Carl Frampton: I'm going to be more dangerous at 126lbs

Carl Frampton says he is relishing the jump up in weight for his bout against Leo Santa Cruz.

Speaking on Thursday's Off The Ball, the Belfast boxer insists he feels more comfortable at the heavier weight. Asked if he would lose any tools going up a class to face the Mexican, he response was clear.

"It's probably the opposite if I'm being honest with you," he said. "I think I'll have better tools at 126lbs than I had at 122lbs. I think I was shrinking myself into 122lbs and it was taking something away from me.

"At 126lbs I'm feeling comfortable and I'm a week away from the weigh-in and I'm eating plenty of food which isn't normal. I'm drinking plenty and I feel good, I'm enjoying boxing again. Usually the week before weigh-in I hate it and I don't like boxing. Now I'm enjoying myself and I think you'll see the best ever performance from me."

Frampton goes into the fight as the underdog, but he says that this is nothing new to him and says that bookies often get it wrong.

"I'm coming out here and I'm not here to make up the numbers against Santa Cruz. We came here to win and I'll be disappointed if I don't come back with a title.

"The last time I went into a fight as an underdog was in the 2009 Irish senior final in the National Stadium against David Oliver Joyce. You could have got me at 11-2, I was a massive underdog going into that fight and I dropped him before giving him a standing count in the final round.

"I don't pay any attention to it. The bookies get it wrong all the time, it just means in this case that people in the know are going to make more money."

Frampton faces Cruz on Saturday July 30th at the Barclays Centre in New York.
