Cian O’Sullivan should be fit in time for the All Ireland final

Dublin manager Jim Gavin is confident that Cian O'Sullivan will be fit in time for the All-Ireland senior football final.

The Kilmacud Crokes man hobbled off against Galway in the semi-final having suffered a hamstring injury.

O'Sullivan has struggled with similar ailments in the past and it was feared he suffered the recurrence in the victory a week ago.

Gavin moved to allay those fears despite the fact that the defender has yet to train since as he recovers from the injury.

O'Sullivan has been a mainstay in the team during Dublin's run to a 4th All Ireland final in a row. He is one of just three players, along with Stephen Cluxton and James McCarthy, to have started all five of Dublin's final wins this decade.

Gavin hopes he will be fit to play: "Thankfully everything is good there so he'll be back training with us next week," said Gavin.

This comes five days after the win over Galway, when Gavin described O'Sullivan's withdrawal as a "precaution".

"Just a bit of tightness in his leg, so just a precaution, in a championship game in that atmosphere you need to get him off and put a fresh player in,"

"We'll just let the medical protocols kick in and over the next 72 hours we'll reassess."

"You get the normal bumps and bruises that you would associate with a championship game, but we are healthy, which is great.

"Cian is a good leader. He drives standards, both on and off the pitch. He is a very experienced player and I have been fortunate to work with him through a lot of it.

"There are a group of players with that experience and it is important going into games like this that we can trade off that.”
