Conor McGregor tells reporters "watch me take over boxing" after Conlan fight

Conor McGregor stepped foot in a boxing ring in the Madison Square Garden Theatre on Friday night, four months after he walked into the octagon in the main arena.

Keeping a promise to accompany Michael Conlan to the ring for his professional debut, the UFC Champion followed the Belfast fighter into the ring, ahead of a potential boxing debut.

The Dubliner is constantly slated to fight Floyd Mayweather, and he made his intentions clear to boxing reporters in Madison Square Garden after Conlan's third round stoppage of Tim Ibarra.

"Watch me take over boxing,” McGregor roared at the press after Conlan's win. "Trust me on that. No one in this boxing game knows what’s coming. Trust me on that."

"When I step in there, I’m going to shock the whole god damn world. Trust me on that. Look me in the eyes. Twenty-eight years of age, confident as a motherf***er, long, rangy, dangerous with every hand."

"Trust me, I’m going to stop Floyd and you’re all going to eat your words. The whole world is going to eat their words."

When asked if the fight was close to being set, McGregor simply responded that "it's getting close".
