Conor McGregor: "Saturday night, I become immortal"

Fans and press alike caught their first glimpses of Conor McGregor's power as a UFC lightweight challenger last night during open workouts and the Irishman didn't disappoint.

On Saturday night he will be top of a stacked card at Madison Square Garden and last night ramped the hype for this weekend's fight up another notch.

"Saturday night, I become immortal," McGregor told the crowd. "I'm immortalized in this, I get the second belt, raise it up, never been done before. It means absolutely everything to me.

"This is my life's work, so I'm ready, I'm going to be prepared. I'm ready to put a show on for the fans."

The UFC featherweight champion has come through a testing year following the euphoria of beating Jose Aldo last December to clinch the the 145lbs strap.

This bout, of course, was supposed to take place back in March and he was supposed to face another Brazilian in the shape of Rafael Dos Anjos.

With Dos Anjos pulling out with injury, Nate Diaz stepped in to save the card and beat McGregor. The rematch, set for UFC 200 in July, was called off and was rescheduled for August at UFC 202 where the pair went five gruelling rounds. McGregor won via majority decision and now looks to make up for lost time against new opponent, Eddie Alvarez.

The reigning lightweight champion said at workouts yesterday: "Look, I fought 13 years of my life to put myself on this stage on one of the biggest nights, in front of one of the biggest crowds.

"I am super excited to go out there and do something violent."
