Conor Murray lets us know how Ian Madigan is coping with scrum-half duties

Joe Schmidt's decision to bring just two scrum-halves to the Rugby World Cup means out-half and sometime centre Ian Madigan has become an option for the No 9 shirt and Ireland's starting scrum-half Conor Murray has spoken about how his colleague is getting accustomed to the role.

The Munster scrum half was speaking to Off The Ball's Nathan Murphy at St George's Park as Joe Schmidt's side prepare for the Romania clash.

"[Ian was involved] during our World Cup camps back in Ireland and over here he's doing his bit of passing and box kicking and just chatting around the hotel to me and Eoin [Reddan] about certain things like that. And he has a good idea how the game of rugby is played and what he expects his 9 to do," said Murray.

"He's not a complete stranger to it and growing up, I'm sure he's had a dabble in it too from time to time, so I won't tell Ian how to play. If he needs something from me in terms of 9, he's not afraid to ask me questions. I've known Ian for years, he's a pretty good friend of mine so it's quite a natural thing to be chatting about."

Murray also talked about the issue of concussion in the wake of Leinster captain Kevin McLaughlin's decision to retire from rugby.
