“Cork bring out the best in us” ”“ Shelly Farrell revels in third consecutive title for Kilkenny

Kilkenny held out to claim their third Littlewoods Camogie League Division 1 title in a row at a packed Nowlan Park.

Kilkenny captain Shelly Farrell had the honour of lifting the cup and spoke to OTB’s Oisin Langan after the final whistle.

“It’s brilliant,” Farrell said.

“We weren’t really thinking about the three in a row, but it’s only now that it’s really sinking in. It was brilliant to have that opportunity and to play here before a hurling final.

“There was a great crowd for the match. We thought it might only be for the last 10 or 20 minutes of the match, but there was a great crowd in here from the start.

“The atmosphere was unbelievable here in Kilkenny.”

Kilkenny failed to score in the final quarter as they scraped victory by a single point.

“We were lucky to do it in the end,” Farrell said.

“But it just shows they could have still beaten us in the end and we had to really hang on. We had a great lead from the first half; we came out all guns blazing.

“We know it’s still early and we still have loads of fitness to do. If we can produce that for 20 minutes in the first half, it will be brilliant come summer-time when everybody is fit and raring to go.

“It’s brilliant to get the win over Cork today.

“It will give us a boost in confidence. If you keep winning matches you’ll get confident, so it’s brilliant. We’re going to try and keep doing that and get as many wins under our belt as we can.

“There’s always only a point or two between us and that’s why we love playing against each other – it brings out the best in us.”
