An update on Rory McIlroy's ankle injury is expected later this week as speculation continues that the 26-year-old could be in a position to defend his US PGA title next week.
The World No 1 is said to be progressing well" in his recovery from a ruptured ankle ligament and it is reported that he has booked a practice round at Whistling Straits which is the venue for the final Major of this year.
However, a further update on McIlroy's fitness is now expected on Thursday.
McIlroy beat Phil Mickelson by one stroke to win last year's US PGA Championship which was held at Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky.
