Crystal Palace fined over Cardiff 'spying' incident

The Premier League has fined Crystal Palace over last season’s ‘spying’ controversy.

The League made an inquiry following Cardiff City complaints that Crystal Palace officials had obtained the Cardiff starting line up before the Welsh club publicly released it, ahead of a crucial game between the sides on April 5. Crystal Palace won the game, in Cardiff, 3-0.

The London club has consistently denied any wrongdoing but the Premier league ruling upholds Cardiff’s complaint and could see Palace fined £25,000.

A Premier League statement read: “The Premier League board has considered a complaint from Cardiff City regarding the conduct of a Crystal Palace official.

"The board found that Crystal Palace breached Rule B.16 and has exercised its summary jurisdiction and fined the club."

Rule B.16 says “that "in all matters and transactions relating to the League, each club shall behave towards each other club and the league with the utmost good faith".

Neither club has commented on the ruling.

The issue stemmed from claims that Crystal Palace sporting director Iain Moody – who had previously worked at Cardiff – had claimed he obtained the tactical information prior to the game and then passed the information on the then Palace boss Tony Pulis.

When confronted with the allegation at the time, Moody said it was "incredibly, extraordinarily untrue".
