D-Day for Sean O'Brien as he awaits hit fate

Sean O'Brien faces an anxious few hours today as his World Cup future hangs in the balance.

The Tullow Tank has traveled from Cardiff to London for a citing hearing after he was seen to throw a punch at Pascal Pape during the first minute of Ireland's win over France.

O'Brien may miss Ireland's quarter final over Argentina and possibly further games in the tournament should Ireland advance. In a statement released by World Rugby last night, they explained their reason for O'Brien's citing.

"Seán O’Brien (Ireland) has been cited by independent Citing Commissioner Dougie Hunter (Scotland) for an alleged act of foul play contrary to Law 10.4(a) during the Rugby World Cup 2015 Pool D match between France and Ireland at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, on Sunday, 11 October. Law 10.4(a) deals with striking.

The hearing will take place at 13:00 on Tuesday, 13 October, at the offices of RWC 2015 official law firm Clifford Chance in London. The case will be heard by independent Judicial Officer Terry Willis (Australia)."

Paul O'Connell's departure from the squad is expected to be confirmed later today, after his hamstring injury. A replacement for Jared Payne is also expected to be called into the squad later today.
