Dani Alves staying at Barcelona after all

Manchester United look to have missed out on one of their reported summer transfer targets.

Barcelona defender Dani Alves has signed a new two-year contract with the European champions.

The right-back also has the option of extending his stay with the Catalan club for an extra year.

With his previous contract set to expire soon, the Brazilian had long been linked with a move away from the Nou Camp where he has won the Champions League three times and five La Liga titles since joining from Sevilla in 2008.

Despite tying Alves down to a new deal, Barcelona still bolstered their right flank by signing Aleix Vidal from  Sevilla, although he cannot be registered until the club's current transfer ban expires in January 2016.

A native of Catalonia, the 25-year-old represented Barca's youth teams between 2001 and 2002.
