Dave Kearney ruled out for Champions Cup semi-final

Dave Kearney will miss Leinster's upcoming Champions Cup semi-final against Clermont Auvergne, Senior Coach Stuart Lancaster has confirmed.

The winger suffered an ankle injury in their Guinness PRO12 victory over Connacht at the weekend that could potentially rule him out for the rest of the season. Kearney, who rolled his ankle in an awkward collision in the 47th minute of the game, was given oxygen and was helped off the pitch after the incident.

An injury update on the club website states that he is due to have further scans later this week to assess the full extent of the injury.

Meanwhile, Mike McCarthy will miss the rest of the season with back and elbow injuries. The second-row, who has 19 caps for Ireland, is currently recovering from surgery on a disc injury in his back.

While his progress following the procedure is encouraging, he will not make it back in time before the end of the season.

Leinster travel to Clermont for their Champions Cup clash on Sunday.
