Dave Robertson confirmed as the new Sligo Rovers manager

Sligo Rovers have appointed Dave Robertson as the club's new manager.

The former Peterborough United manager was announced as Micky Adams' successor this morning. He has signed a two-year contract with the club.

“I am delighted to be coming to work at Sligo Rovers. I know it is a big club with big expectations and hopefully the players and I can bring the success it deserves. The club has had some good times for the last few years and I want to bring that back. That is what I intend to do and I will be 100% committed to that."

The Showgrounds side have struggled in the past two seasons, that has no seen six managerial changes since June 2014. After starting last season with the hopes of European qualification, the 2012 League champions only guaranteed league survival on the penultimate week of the season after a win over St Patrick's Athletic.

Despite Robertson's managerial and coaching experience coming in England, he researched the position before getting the Rovers job. "I have spoken to several people I know that know the league so I have a relative understanding but I want to get more depth. Recruiting players is a massive task and a very important one and if we can do that well it gives us the opportunity to hit the ground running and push forward from there."

Robertson's path to management has been an unusual one. He joined the Royal Marines as a teenager and served in Kuwait and Northern Ireland before turning to football. He will be formally unveiled in the coming days.
