Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed defeated Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson by 3&2, Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler finished 1UP on Andy Sullivan and Rory McIlroy, while Jimmy Walker and Zach Johnson beat Sergio Garcia and Martin Kaymer by 4&2 and Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar beat Thomas Pieters and Lee Westwood by 5&4.
Danny Willett, who was omitted from the session this morning in light of his brother's controversial comments in a golf magazine, will partner Martin Kaymer this evening as they take on Brandt Snedeker and Brooks Koepka.
No away team has ever won the Ryder Cup after conceding all four opening foursomes but that is the task awaiting Darren Clarke's side.
