Djoker and Serena made to sweat early doors

The top seeds have not had it all their own way on the opening day of this year's Wimbledon Championship.

Novak Djokovic was pushed-hard by Philipp Kohlschreiber in the opening match on Centre Court. But the Serb had too many weapons for this opponent and was able to secure a straight sets win - 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

As the reigning champion, it was Djokovic's responsibility to open up play on Centre Court on Day One and he admitted that he felt the responsibility that it entails.

"It doesn't get any bigger than Wimbledon so as the defending champion obviously there is this history and tradition that is well nurtured and respected here. It really is a special feeling," he said.

Serena Williams is also through to the second round after she bounced-back from being broken in the very first game of her match against Margarita Gasparyan to win in straight sets.

Meanwhile, women's seventh seed Ana Ivanovic safely advanced to the second round after losing just two games on her way to a straight sets victory.
