Drogheda United appoint new manager for the final league game of the season

Ahead of their game against Shamrock Rovers on Friday night, Drogheda United have appointed Pete Mahon as manager until the end of the season.

The appointment comes as Mark Kinsella's 60 day period in charge as caretaker manager has come to a close due to a lack of coaching badges. Mahon has already worked at the club this season with Kinsella.

In a statement released by the club this afternoon, they state:

"Drogheda United would like to announce that Pete Mahon has rejoined the club until the end of the season.

Pete will be in the role of First Team manager for Friday night's game away to Shamrock Rovers after Mark Kinsella's 60 day period in charge as caretaker manager came to an end as per criterion PAD 2.01.

Pete was Mark's first choice option with the two having already worked together this season and with Pete being familiar with both the players and the Club."

Kinsella is expected to be in the dugout this weekend with Mahon. If Drogheda survive automatic relegation this weekend, they will face either Finn Harps or UCD in a two legged play off with a prize in the Premier Division at stake for the winners next year.
