Dundalk do enough tonight to retain the League of Ireland title

Dundalk have won back-to-back SSE Airtricity League Premier Division titles.

The reigning champions came into tonight's game knowing that a victory against Shamrock Rovers would secure the trophy for another year with three games to go.

In the end, they had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Rovers after Richie Towell's 84th minute penalty cancelled out a Danny North goal at Tallaght Stadium.

It was Cork City's failure to better that result in Drogheda which sealed the title for Dundalk. Keith Treacy put Drogheda United 1-0 up on eight minutes, but Cork battled back soon after as Karl Sheppard equalised in the 12th minute.

But they could not find a winner to prevent Dundalk from having to fight for the title for another week.

Meanwhile, tonight's other results saw Bohemians beat Dublin rivals St Patrick's Athletic 2-0 at Dalymount Park thanks to goals from Anthony Murphy and Karl Moore, while a Vinny Faherty brace helped Limerick defeat Galway United 3-1 away.

Derry City also defeated Bray Wanderers 3-1 at the Brandywell.
