Dundalk's Robbie Benson is buoyant as mighty BATE await

Dundalk's Robbie Benson is confident the club can carry their good form into tonight's Champions League third qualifying round first leg against BATE Borisov.

The League of Ireland champions can move a step closer to the Champions League group stages tonight with a positive result in Belarus.

The Lilywhites are going up against the Belarussian champions for the second season in a row and Stephen Kenny's side will be hoping to avenge last year's defeat in the first round of qualifying.

Dundalk have been in superb form recently and midfielder Benson says that they are confident of being able to continue that form tonight.

"Especially with the league form we have at the minute, there's no substitute for when you get into winning positions, it's hard to hold out. Obviously with what was at stake last week [against FH of Iceland], we probably got a little bit nervy towards the end of the game but it's understandable. We know we need to, in that situation again, manage it a bit better and I think we'll be able to do that if we get into that position," he said.

If Dundalk do knock out BATE, they will reach the Playoff Round which puts them within two places of a historic group stage spot.
