EPL Round Up: Rooney sees red but United sneak win

Wayne Rooney was sent off for a moment of seemingly ridiculous petulance, and there were some nervous moments along the way, but Manchester United got back on track, somewhat, with a 2-1 win over West Ham at Old Trafford.

Rooney was dismissed following a kick out at West Ham’s Stewart Downing.

Rooney had put United in front after just five minutes and Robin Van Persie doubled that lead on 20 minutes.

Diafra Sakho put the Londoners back into the tie with a goal in the 37th minute.

Rooney’s red card gave West Ham real hope in the closing minutes but Sam Allardyce’s side couldn’t find the equaliser.

Chelsea were 3 - 0 winners against Aston Villa with goals from Oscar, Diego Costa and Willian. Costa grabbed his eight goal of the season.

Chelsea’s three goals keep them as the league’s deadliest outfit, with 19 goals in six games.

Two second-half goals from Manchester City gave them a 4 - 2 win at Hull City.

City went into a quick two goal lead but Hull pulled them back to level, thanks largely to the work of City’s Eliaquim Mangala. Mangala headed into his own net on 21 minutes and then gave away a penalty on 32 minutes, which Hernandez converted to make the game 2-2.

Eden Dzeko scored his second of the game on 68 minutes to put the champions ahead, before Frank Lampard scored the fourth on 87 minutes.

Crystal Palace beat Leicester 2 - 0 with Frazier Campbell and Mile Jedinak the scorers.

Southampton were 2 - 1 winners against QPR. The game came alive in the second half when Ryan Bertrand scored the opener to give the Saints the lead on 54 minutes.

Charlie Austin levelled the game with an excellent volley on the turn on 66 minutes but just two minutes later Graziano Pelle scored a goal of incredible quality, with a stunning acrobatic effort taking the win and keeping Southampton second.

The match between Sunderland and 10 man Swansea finished scoreless. Sunderland are still waiting for their first win of the season. This was the Black Cats’ fifth draw in six games.
