Eddie O'Sullivan believes Connacht have got some of their "mojo" back after finally getting a win on the board in the Guinness Pro 12 this season.
After four matches, victory over Edinburgh was the reigning champions' first win of the campaign and former Ireland head coach Eddie feels they can use that as a platform to work their way back to form.
"They've probably got a bit of their mojo back. It's been coming for a while," he said.
"They basically got it together. But I think you have to measure it against the opposition. You've got to be positive. A bonus point win and they never looked in any trouble and I just think the value of the victory will give them a bit of wind in their sales, which they need badly, and maybe reaffirm in guys' minds that any doubts creeping in about what they were doing last year works if you're accurate with it. So I think that's the upside for them for sure."
But overall on the Pro 12 in general, he doesn't believe the competition provides a perfect launchpad for teams heading into European commitments.
"I think the standard across the Pro 12 is not at a level we would need to really throw down a marker for Europe," he said.
"It doesn't mean on the night [that] teams like Ulster, Munster, Leinster, Connacht can't deliver. But you can't go into those European games banking on what you've Pro 12. You really have to go up a notch when you go to the European games and it's not a great preparation. I think the tournament is struggling a little bit, much as we hate to admit it."
