European Football round-up: Madrid embarrassed, Bayern increase their lead & Juventus win the derby d'Italia

Saturday football can offer an overload for your sporting senses and trying to keep up with everything can result in loss of sanity, severely depleted battery on your phone and wifi in your home being stretched to the max.

That's why we are happy to offer a round-up of all European football you might have missed.

Bundesliga

Bayern Munich sit 12 points ahead of Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga following a 3-1 loss for the latter on Friday night. Bayern made relatively hard work of their derby tie with 7th placed Schalke, only going ahead in the 69th minute thanks to a goal from Javi Martinez. They won 3-1 in the end to push themselves 12 points ahead in the league.

Elsewhere, Javier Hernandez continued his amazing goal scoring streak with two for Bayer Leverkusen in their 3-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt.

He has now scored six in 10 for the German club and five in his last four games.

Meanwhile, Wolfsburg put six past Werder Bremen in their attempt to keep pace with Dortmund and Bayern at the head of the table.

La Liga

The big news from Spain was Barcelona's 4-0 annihilation of Real Madrid in their back yard and the mounting pressure on Rafa Benitez at the Santiago Bernabeu.

This goal from Andreas Iniesta harks back to days of Pep Guardiola with Barcelona picking their greatest rivals apart. Iniesta was immense along with a host of other Barcelona players and there is genuine concern for Real Madrid and what this result means.

Real Madrid's frustration can best be described by watching this video of Isco, who came on as a second half substitute, kicking Neymar. Real Madrid were left red-faced, Isco was red-carded and Barcelona left Madrid with three points in the bag. Watching the game, it was obvious that Real Madrid weren't sure as to what they were trying to achieve tactically. Guillem Balague has stated that heads could roll for this abomination and we will be keeping a close eye on news from Spain's capital in the coming days.

Life for Real Sociedad post-David Moyes began well with a 2-0 victory over Sevilla. The San Sebastian based club have a tough run of fixtures with Barcelona visiting the Anoeta next week to begin the run. This win will buoy their new coach, however, and lifting themselves to safety should and will be the main focus of this for the coming weeks.

Atletico Madrid have an opportunity to go second with a victory over Real Betis on Sunday night. It would be the culmination of a desperate weekend for Real Madrid if their city rivals were to leapfrog them in La Liga.

Serie A

A single goal from Paulo Dybala was all it took to separate Juventus and A.C Milan with Juve sitting in a paltry sixth position in the Italian league.

Fiorentina and Napoli continue to set the pace in the chase for the Scudetto. Both play on Sunday with Napoli visiting Hellas Verona and Fiorentina welcoming Empoli later in the afternoon.

In other news, Portugal's Lisbon derby was won 2-1 by Sporting after extra time with the winner coming from Islam Slimani in the 112th minute.

The Greek derby between Panathinaikos and Olympiakos was postponed due to violent clashes between fans and the police prior to the game. The game was delayed by an hour before the decision was made to call off the game due to the unsafe conditions inside and outside the stadium.
