Schools across the country to close indefinitely from Monday

Secondary schools across the country are set to close indefinitely from Monday after negotiations on teacher pay ended without agreement this evening.

Members of The Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland (ASTI) will withdraw from supervision and substitution duties from tomorrow.

Teachers will turn up for work as normal, however the withdrawal from supervision and substitution will leave more than 400 of the country’s 735 secondary schools unable to open for health and safety reasons.

FBI finds no evidence of criminal wrongdoing in Clinton emails

The FBI has found no evidence of any criminal wrongdoing in the latest review of Hillary Clinton’s emails.

FBI director, James Comey said on Sunday that - having completed the review - the bureau has once again come to the conclusion that there is no reason to recommend criminal charges.

While serving as Secretary of State, Mrs Clinton kept scores of emails containing highly classified information on her family’s private email server - rather than official encrypted federal servers.

"Significant" weapons seizure may be linked to ongoing gangland feud in Dublin

Gardaí are investigating whether a major firearms seizure in Cabra is linked to an ongoing gangland feud in Dublin.

Two sub-machine guns and a number of other firearms have been seized following a planned operation by gardaí yesterday.

The search, undertaken by The Garda Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau Unit and the Garda Special Crime Task Force, uncovered five weapons - including hand guns, silencers, sub machine guns and ammunition.

Thousands attend rally in support of Apple data centre in Athenry

Thousands of people have attended a gathering in Galway in support of Apple’s plans to build a data centre near Athenry.

The American tech giant was granted planning permission for the project in August, but the development has been delayed due to legal challenges.

Apple said 300 jobs will be created during the construction phase of the data centre with 150 people employed there once operational.

Late drama sees Cork beat Dundalk in FAI Cup Final

A last-gasp strike from former Dundalk player Sean Maguire handed Cork City the FAI Cup this evening as they denied this season's league champions the "double double".

Dundalk, who were aiming to complete back-to-back doubles had their place in history struck out when Sean Maguire, the man Dundalk allowed to leave the club in December of last year struck in the final minutes of injury after the sides needed extra time to separate themselves.
