Evra brings up Ireland-France post-match to highlight how English journalist underestimated Iceland

France defender Patrice Evra admits he and his team-mates are surprised to be playing Iceland in the Euro 2016 quarter finals but isn't underestimating them.

Indeed the former Manchester United left-back believes England - or more precisely parts of their media - underestimated the Nordic nation in their infamous 2-1 defeat on Tuesday night in Nice.

"Honestly, I thought a victory for England should have been logical but it was 50:50 because I think there are a lot of people who undervalue let's say the small nations. We know that this tournament is difficult," he said.

"I remember at the end of our game with Ireland an English journalist asked me how I would react playing against England because I played for nine years there. I told him 'I have the impression that you've already qualified to be there and you haven't played your game yet'. He answered to me, 'it would be a catastrophe not to qualify'. But in football it's always possible. So wait and see what's going to happen against Iceland."
