FIFA set deadline for Suarez response

Uruguay's Luis Suarez could face a ban of up to two years from international football following another alleged bite, this time against Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini.

FIFA have give Suarez and the Uruguayan FA until 9 o'clock tonight to respond to the accusation.

The referee didn't deal with the incident at the time despite Cellini bringing it to his attention but that doesn't matter as FIFA can use video or other evidence in any disciplinary action.

Some quotes from those involved:

Oscar Tabarez, Uruguay coach - "It seems there is this animosity toward him and he is being persecuted by past events....There are people hiding behind the tree waiting for something to happen."

Luis Surez - "Those are situations that happen on the pitch. We were both just there inside the area. He shoved me with his shoulder, and my eye got left like that also,"

Michael Owen - "Tell me I'm seeing things. Surely Suarez didn't bite someone again? I'm genuinely gutted. I love watching him play more than any other player but he obviously can't control himself."

Even before this incident the 27 year-old-had been linked with moves to Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Earlier today, ex Liverpool captain Phil Thompson joined Ivan on Newstalk Breakfast to discuss what could happen next.
