Our guide to cramming as much sporting coverage as humanly possible into a bumper Super Sunday

Sunday is regarded by many as a day of rest, and you may need to take that very literally and not move from the couch for the whole day.

Why? Well because there's a lineup of sport that includes rugby, American football, and some of the biggest rivalries in European football.

Here's everything that's happening today, and what you need to know about it.

Everton v Liverpool - Goodison Park 1.30 pm

Why: The Merseyside derby is one of the biggest rivalries in the history of English football. Everton head into the game slight favourites and with pressure mounting on Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, the game has added spice. There are a few key stats to keep an eye on ahead of today's game, which will keep you informed on all the drama.

Ajax v PSV Eindhoven - Amsterdam Arena 1.30 pm

WhyAjax finished 17 points behind champions PSV last season, but they can go top tomorrow after the first seven rounds of fixtures. PSV are five points behind Ajax in fourth place having lost Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay during the summer, so Ajax will be looking to throw down an early warning to their nearest competitors.

Where: Sky Sports 3

Argentina v Tonga - King Power Stadium 2.30pm

Why: It's the clash of 2nd versus 3rd in Pool C of the Rugby World Cup. Tonga sit one point ahead of Argentina and both sides will be aiming for a bonus point victory to keep the pressure on New Zealand at the summit and guarantee their own quarter-final berth.

Where: TV3

New York Jets v Miami Dolphins - Wembley  Stadium 2.30pm

Why: The NFL's international series games are only getting bigger and bigger every year, and this is the first of a series taking place this season. The Dolphins are technically the home team, but the Jets come into this looking like the favourites and might finally have gotten their stuff together. That in itself is an amazing feat, considering one of their players sucker punched their starting QB and broke his jaw during the preseason...

Where: BBC Two

Arsenal v Manchester United – Emirates Stadium 4.00pm

Why: A rivalry so potent in the early noughties has calmed slightly in recent years, but this fixture has thrown up some classics; take your pick from Arsenal securing the title at Old Trafford to United's 8-2 trouncing of the Londoners.

Arsene Wenger is under huge pressure after another European defeat midweek left them all but eliminated from the Champions League, whereas United are looking for a fourth consecutive win in all competitions and look like the team in form.

Bayern Munich v Dortmund – Allianz Arena 4.30pm

Why: Robert Lewandowski has been in scintillating form, the likes of which has almost never been seen: he scored ten goals last week. LAST WEEK. He will face his old side Dortmund, and although iconic manager Jurgen Klopp left in the summer, they look ready to challenge Munich at the top of the Bundesliga in tomorrow's Klassiker under Thomas Tuchel.

Pep Guardiola's side lead the pack with seven wins out of seven, 23 goals scored and only three conceded. While they look untouchable, there's always something in Dortmund that drive them to be at their best when they face the Bavarians and they could put paid of the champions' perfect start tomorrow evening.

Where: BT Sport Europe

Ireland v Italy - Olympic Stadium 4.45pm

Why: Ireland's world cup campaign kicks off in earnest tomorrow, when they face their toughest test against Italy. After much concern over the fitness of Jared Payne and the selection dilemma between Luke Fitzgerald or Keith Earls at outside centre, we get to see what this Irish squad is really made of. Joe Schmidt will be aiming for another bonus point victory to add to their wins over Canada and Romania.

Where: Live updates on Off The Ball throughout the afternoon and TV3

Atlético Madrid v Real Madrid  - Vicente Calderon 7.30 pm

Why: The La Liga table looks a little stranger than usual, as Villarreal are top and northerners Celta Vigo hot on their tails. Not exactly titans of Spanish football, but with Barcelona slumping to a 2-1 defeat to Sevilla this weekend, Real Madrid can go top with a win, while Simeone's Atlético can leap frog Barca and Real with victory. Not to mention this is a rivalry that divides the Spanish capital, and has been closer than usual in recent years.

Where: Sky Sports 1

Paris Saint Germain v Marseille – Parc des Princes 8.00pm

Why: Le Classique sees Marseille in unfamiliar territory, 16th in the standings with only eight points from eight games. After being involved in another big tie against Lyon this season, infamously marred by crowd trouble, they are struggling to find any sort of consistent form.

PSG on the other hand are getting on with business as usual. Eight played, six won and two draws, they sit top with a two point cushion. The fixture couldn't come at a better time for Laurent Blanc's men, while Marseille could certainly do with another few games to find their feet.

Our Recommendation

It all kicks off on Off The Ball at midday as Joe Molloy pours over the Sunday Sports pages with David McWilliams & Declan Lynch.

You can enjoy live and exclusive radio commentary of Everton v Liverpool on Off The Ball with Mark Scott and Stephen Hunt at 1.30pm and pop Ajax v PSV Eindhoven on the box.

Depending on how the Ajax/PSV game ends, you can flick to the BBC on your TV for the NFL and head to the live player for TV3 on your computer for the rugby, all the while keeping an ear out for what's happening in the the Merseyside derby on Off The Ball.

There will be plenty of reaction to that game and buildup to the rugby and Premier League action, so don't bother switching the radio off or you'll miss Nathan Murphy and Alan Quinlan assessing what's in store for Joe Schmidt's men today. You can watch the first half of United Arsenal but turn the sound down to hear the best commentary from Dave McIntyre and Kenny Cunningham on the radio, before switching to BT Europe on the box for Der Klassiker.

Fire up the computer again and flick on the live player for the Ireland game keeping an ear out on the rest of the clash at the top of the Premier League table on Off The Ball

Maybe get up and have a walk around for a few minutes then before you return to the couch for the other two big European football ties, one on the box and one on the laptop as you watch the Madrid derby and Le Classique at the same time. There's even more NFL after that if you fancy it, but you might want to get some human interaction with other people or something...maybe., Your choice.
