Former Liverpool great Graeme Souness rushed to hospital

Former Liverpool player Graeme Souness was reportedly admitted to hospital yesterday and is currently receiving treatment near his home in Dorset.

Souness, who has already undergone heart surgery twice, was admitted to hospital on a stretcher but details in relation to his admission have yet to be disclosed.

Sources close to Souness maintain that the situation is not serious and messages wishing him a speedy recovery are currently being posted on social media.

Speaking shortly after his surgery in 2000, Souness said:

"I went to America and had some treatment that is making me feel even better. I feel like I could be playing again — like a 19-year-old. There was nothing actually wrong with my heart, it was the arteries leading to it. Something in me allows fat to build up in the arteries and doesn’t clear it away".

Souness was central to Liverpool's successful era during the '80s in which he won five Premier League titles and three European Cups with the reds.

He went on to excel as a manager. He led Rangers to three successive titles in the mid '80s as a player-manager and guided Liverpool to an FA Cup in 1991.
