PHOTOS: A look back at Ireland's famous win over the Netherlands at Landsdowne Road fourteen years on

Ireland have had very few memorable days in Lansdowne Road in recent years, in particular when some of the bigger nations come to Dublin for competitive matches.

This day in 2001, Louis van Gaal's Dutch side came to Dublin in a crucial World Cup qualifier. The Dutch were ranked in the top 10 in the World Rankings going into the game and ended up being the highest ranking side not to reach the tournament in Japan and South Korea.

Jason McAteer scored the only goal of the game in the 68th minute as Ireland went on to win 1-0 in what has become a famous victory. The win was crucial for Ireland joining Portugal from Group 2 in the World Cup the following year.

While the game is primarily remembered for McAteer's goal, it was also the game that saw Roy Keane "welcome" Marc Overmars to Dublin and Louis van Gaal desperately try to score an equaliser, putting four strikers on the pitch for the last 20 minutes.
