GAA to prepare for potential fixtures chaos in Allianz Leagues

The GAA have confirmed that an alternate fixtures plan is being put in place in the event of any of this weekend's Allianz Hurling and Football Leagues ties falling victim to the weather.

A full set of fixtures in both codes is scheduled for this weekend, with 33 games across 10 divisions. However it's feared the impending Storm Emma has the potential to result in the postponement of a number of matches, particularly those on the east coast.

Any football game called off is likely to be pushed back a week to Sunday March 11th as there are no ties scheduled for that weekend, but there is far less room to maneuver in hurling. The competition is due to be played straight through until the final on Saturday 24th March with games scheduled every weekend until then.

Any postponement, particularly in Division 1A or 1B, could result in the knockout stages pushed back a week with the quarter-finals on March 18th, the semi-finals a week later and final on March 31st (Easter Saturday), just 24 hours before the scheduled Division 1 Football decider.

Details of the GAA's contingency plan will be announced later in the week if required.
