Gold medal winner Eoghan Clifford: "If I hadn't won today, I would have been really disappointed"

Eoghan Clifford has admitted there is a huge sense of relief after winning gold in the Men's C3 Time Trial at the Rio Paralympics.

The Galway native chatted to Newstalk Sports' Oisin Langan immediately after sealing his moment of glory to attain his second medal of the Games.

What pleased him most was how he accomplished the performance he set out to achieve.

"I'm absolutely delighted. It's the performance I was looking for. It's the performance I knew I could deliver," he said.

"For me it's also a huge relief because I felt, even for a lot of the season and earlier on this week, I hadn't done myself justice or the team justice and hopefully today I've managed to do that.

"It's a fantastic feeling especially after halfway I was told I was up and I always finish the time trials stronger."

He added: "For me personally, if I hadn't won today, I would have been really disappointed. I know it sounds like putting a lot of pressure on myself but I probably need that to motivate myself."
