'He did look at us, smile and smack Jorge Valdivia on the arse'

As you may have seen earlier, Uruguay and PSG striker Edinson Cavani was sent off after taking exception to a rogue digit from Chile's Gonzalo Jara which ended up probing him, for want of a better word.

But Jara was hardly contrite about the incident in Chile's Copa America quarter-final victory over the Uruguayans as football writer Miguel Delaney saw first hand in the mixed zone post-match.

He told Off The Ball: "He seemed to take it lightly himself after the game. When he was walking through the mixed zone he wouldn't talk to press. But he did look at us, smile and then smack [team-mate] Jorge Valdivia on the arse as he walked by."

Chile's victory over Uruguay puts them through to a semi-final on home soil, but as Miguel also told us regional rivalries are very much apparent.

"[Chile] are seen as distinctive from the rest of South America and apparently - and this translates to some of the games - that the rest of South America doesn't really like the Chileans because they're seen as a little bit arrogant," he said, citing how organised the country is in comparison to many of its South American neighbours.
