Henderson commits long term future to Liverpool

England international Jordan Henderson has today signed a "new long-term contract" with Liverpool FC. The midfielder joined the Anfield side in 2011 from his hometown team Sunderland.

After a tough start under Kenny Dalglish, Henderson has grown in stature at the club eventually becoming club vice. captain at the start of this season. He is expected to replace Steven Gerrard as club captain once Gerrard moves to LA Galaxy in the summer.

Speaking to the club's official website, Henderson said:

"There has been talk about it for a while now. It's brilliant news for me to commit my future to this football club - I really feel that it's a good time for us to look forward to the future, with the squad we've got, the manager, the size of the club and the fans we've got. I really think, over the next few years, we can challenge and start winning trophies."

Manager Brendan Rodgers was delighted with Henderson's commitment:

"The fact he has made such a long-term commitment to Liverpool is a sign of his belief in what we are looking to do here. He will have a crucial role to play as we look to take this side forward and look to add success to the progress we have made."

Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho have also signed long terms deals at Anfield this season.

Henderson has made 180 appearances for the club, scoring 20 goals and has become a regular in the England midfield under manager Roy Hodgson.
