'I don't agree with what Gerrard said' - Pat Nevin on reaction to Chelsea ovation

One of the big talking points from yesterday's draw between Chelsea and Liverpool was the standing ovation that Steven Gerrard got from the Stamford Bridge crowd.

After the game, Gerrard was not particularly forgiving about the Blues fans who had been baiting him all game, saying: "Chelsea fans have had respect for a couple of seconds today but have slaughtered me all game. I'm not going to get drawn into wishing Chelsea fans well."

But former Chelsea midfielder Pat Nevin, who was at Stamford Bridge, has told Off The Ball that he did not agree with Gerrard on that point.

"I don't agree with what he said. I don't agree that he actually even felt that," he said, highlighting Gerrard's applause of the crowd as he came off and reckons that social media reaction may have let to a tougher stance from the Liverpool captain post-match.

"He goes into the dressing room, turns on his Twitter, Liverpool fans are giving him dog's abuse for giving applause to Chelsea fans, he then has to quickly turn his position to make sure that the Liverpool fans know he's on side. I wish he wouldn't have had to do that."

Pat also gave his take on the "bad eggs" comments made by QPR's Joey Barton as the London side were relegated.
