'I don't see Pats competing for the league title' - Roddy Collins

One of the big results from the weekend's League of Ireland was St Patrick's Athletic's 3-0 defeat at Dundalk as the champions laid down a marker against the previous title holders.

That's two defeats in three games for Pats and tonight, Roddy Collins opined that Liam Buckley' side will not be challenging for the SSE Airtricity League title.

"I think there's a malaise set in with four or five league games to go last season. I believe that they conceded the league too easily. I believe that they took a cop out and went and got the monkey off their back with the cup," said Roddy, who saw problems ever since the first game against Shamrock Rovers.

"I don't see Pats competing for the league title this season and that's unfortunate."

Stuey also feels from experience that when similar starts have been made in the past, it can be hard to turn around momentum.

The lads also gave their take on issues at Limerick where the quality of the current pitch has been questioned. But pitch problems are seen as a general issue.

"There's a few that are poor. Carlisle Grounds is awful and the worst I've ever seen it," said Stuey, who also thinks the long off-season means that poor pitches should not be an issue.

Roddy believes managers to challenge their club hierarchies about those type of problems.
