“If I were Conor, I’d defend my title" - Dana White adamant that Conor McGregor will be returning to 145lbs

Dana White is adamant that Conor McGregor will return to 145lbs to defend his featherweight title after his victory over Nate Diaz at UFC 202.

McGregor beat Diaz in their main event welterweight bout in Las Vegas last weekend and said he would consider his options as to whether or not his next move is a title defence.

White, however, wasn't as cryptic about what he thinks is the next course of action.

"Conor has to defend his title or make a decision to give it up – or whatever he wants to do," White told ESPN’s SportsCenter immediately after UFC 202. "I’ve got to sit down and see what’s next."

Asked what he would do in the same position he said: “If I were Conor, I’d defend my title"

White also went on to tell TMZ that the a third trilogy fight with Diaz is not an option at this moment in time: "The war was fun and super successful, but I'm movin' on."

McGregor pointed out the length of time he had to wait to get his title shot against Jose Aldo and that he dispatched of the Brazilian in just 13 seconds last December.

“I don’t think they’re going to do that [strip him of his belt]; I mean how can they do that?” McGregor said.

"If they want to do that and want to give my belt to the guy I KO’d in 13 seconds and bury that division on the prelims or the Fight Pass stuff, because that’s what they’re going to do, I mean, we’ll see. How can they do that? What would that do to the division if the guy I KO’d in 13 seconds is the unified champion?

"We got a lot to talk about, and I’m in a beautiful, beautiful position right now. And that was built through hard work, and I’m going to capitalize on that. We’ll see. There’s a lot of stuff in the pipeline."
