Images: Golfers and organisers show their solidarity with victims in France at The Open Championship

Following the tragic events which took place yesterday in France, patrons at The Open Championship have paid tribute to the victims of a terrorist attack.

At least 84 people are confirmed dead after a lorry crashed into a crowd of people celebrating Bastille Day in Nice. Men, women and children are among those who lost their lives just months after the horrific attacks in Paris last November.

Events like this can put the importance of sport into true perspective, which has prompted patrons at The Open to honour those who have been affected by the events.

French golfer Clement Sordet was seen wearing a cap with "PrayForNice" printed on it this morning, while tournament organisers have made black ribbons available to the golfers at the first tee should they choose to wear one in respect of the victims.

The French national flag is also flying at half mast next to the Leaderboard.
