On Monday, the GAA unveiled the National Games Development Centre (NGDC) in Abbotstown, spanning 25 acres.

The new facility, which is on the site of the National Sports Campus, comprises five pitches, four of which are floodlit, as well as a 3G pitch, a hurling wall, dressing rooms, physiotherapy areas and a gymnasium.

There is also a seated area which can cater for up to 400 spectators, meeting rooms and dining facilities.

According to the GAA, the aim of the facility is to "increase participation and to improve the performance of individuals (players, coaches, administrators, personnel etc.) within the GAA for the benefit of both the Association and the individuals".

GAA President Aogán Ó Fearghail stated that "the real benefits of this development will come to be seen in the months and years ahead as the Centre caters for teams of all types, fostering a sharing of best practice that will enhance our games and the experience of those who play and coach them".
