Ireland consolidate 4th place in world rankings

Ireland have consolidated their grip on fourth place in World Rugby's rankings after their big win over Italy in Rome.

Joe Schmidt's men ran in nine tries to beat their hosts 63-10 which improved their ranking from 83.53 to 83.75.

The gap to Wales in fifth widened further after the Welsh lost to England in Cardiff and they now sit on 82.44.

The only positional switch in the top ten saw France move into seventh place with Scotland dropping to eight after "Les Bleus" beat Vern Cotter's side on Sunday.

Italy have now dropped to 14th in the rankings and sit behind Japan, Georgia and Tonga. 

Elsewhere Spain and Germany both jumped up to spots to 21st and 22nd respectivelty. The Spaniards beat Russia 16-6 and the Germans overcame the Romanians for the first time since 1938 with a 41-38 win.
