Ireland finds success in the pool as they claim fourth medal

Team Ireland’s medal haul at the Special Olympics has risen to four after Sarah Jane Johnston claimed her second medal of the Games.

It has been in the pool where Ireland has found its success so far in the games as Sarah Jane from Lurgan finished third in the 100m freestyle race claiming bronze.

On Sunday Sarah Jane also claimed bronze in the 100m backstroke. Johnston along with Sean Coleman and Gary McEnroe have claimed Ireland’s medals to date

There was also success in the pool for Galway athlete Lorraine Hession who celebrated a fourth place ribbon in a separate division of the 100 metre freestyle competition. The 27- year-old, who hails from Turloughmore, Co Galway also registered a personal best in the race. 

There was also a sixth place ribbon for the Team Ireland Bowling players Annita O’Connor, John Rowan, Michael Conboy and Sean Campbell.

Newstalk.com's Henry McKean got a golden ticket to LA for the 2015 Special Olympics World Games Opening Ceremony in The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

It was kicked off by Michelle Obama and a host of stars like Colin Farrell and Stevie Wonder.

7,000 athletes including 88 Irish competitors celebrated before getting down to trying to win medals.
