Ireland's Tom Barr fails to make the final of the 400m hurdles in Beijing

Thomas Barr finished fourth in yesterday's heat to progress to today's semi-final, but narrowly missed out on a place in the final.

Barr once again finished fourth with a time of 48.71 seconds, and with only the top two qualifying, it ultimately wasn't enough to see the Irishman through.

He finished 11th in the overall standings, and was unable to claim the spot as the fastest loser in the final.

Mark English also failed to qualify for the final in the 800m as he finished fifth with a time 1.45.55 in his semi final. English was unlucky as he was drawn in what turned out to be the fastest semi final.

Earlier in the morning, Alex Wright was disqualified in the 20km walk after he was penalised three times for losing contact with the ground.
