"It might be tight going" - Martin O'Neill on John O'Shea fitness race for Bosnia second leg

Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce says John O'Shea's hamstring injury has settled down but has not given any return date for the defender.

The Waterford man limped off during the first half of Sundays win over Newcastle.

O'Shea is suspended for the first of Ireland Euro 2016 play-off ties with Bosnia Herzegovina regardless but it is hoped that he will be available for the second leg.

The former Manchester United player has been named in a 39-man provisional squad this afternoon however Stephen Quinn is out through injury.

Ireland manager Martin O'Neill is unsure of O'Shea will be fit enough to feature in the second leg.

"Only time will tell. It might be tight going but we'll see. He obviously misses the first game through suspension but we'll give it every single opportunity," he said.
