James Horan's view on Mayo's age-profile means we should watch that space

James Horan believes the age profile of some of Mayo's key men means they can go up another few levels over the next few years.

The ex-Mayo boss was on Off The Ball tonight as always on a Thursday to preview their Connacht final against Sligo and feels a key part of the county's core still have to get to the peak of their powers.

"You've seen it over the last four or five years, They are absolutely standout players and the age profile is very good on the team. You think of Aidan O'Shea, Jason Doherty, Cillian O'Connor Diarmuid O'Connor and Kevin McLoughlin. They're still early 20s. It's like they've been around for a long time. But they haven't reached their peak, so there's a lot of those guys that are driving it on," he said, although he acknowledged that Mayo's recent underage record has not been at its best.

Horan also looked at the tactics of both Mayo and Sligo with a focus on the importance of the kickout, while he also homed in on the effect pressing could have.

The Connacht football final is live on Off The Ball this Sunday. Listen back to James and Wooly's pre-match analysis via the podcast and you can check out ticket details on the GAA website:
