Jason Day claims Canadian Open

Jason Day dispelled the disappointment of last week's Open championship with a win in the RBC Canadian Open last night.

The Australian narrowly missed out on a play-off with eventual winner Zach Johnson after leaving a putt short on the final hole last Monday.

Johnson held his nerve in a three-man play-off with Louis Oosthuizen and Marc Leishman to lift the Claret Jug.

Day was made to work hard for the victory, he birdied six times during the final round and dropped only two shots to edge American Bubba Watson by a single stroke.

Local favourite, David Hearn, held the lead heading into the final day but was unable to hold his nerve and eventually surrounded his two-shot advantage.

The Australian finished with a final round of 68 on the Glen Abbey Golf Course and told media: "It's just a really good feeling because whenever you win an Open championship of any country you're doing something good.

"For it come after what happened last week, and to be able to hit that putt, I'm just over the moon right now."
