World number one Jason Day says he doesn't have any interest in speeding up aspects of his game and will continue at a modest pace in 2017.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Day admitted that he plays better at a slower pace and doesn't concern himself with how people perceive his style.
"Sometimes you've just got to get out of your own way, and it's easier said than done," he said referring to his performances in major tournaments.
"You don’t want to be classed as a slower player, but thinking about it now when I was playing and competing and doing really well I forgot about that stuff.
"I didn’t care if people thought I was slow or not and I played better. I just need to make sure I’m deliberate, but respect other players. You have to respect the time the PGA Tour has given us.
"Because I think a little bit at the same time, I cared about, you know, obviously everyone wants to speed up the game. Obviously that's a big subject in golf, to speed up the game.

"In my opinion, I don't care so much about speeding up my game. I've got to get back to what makes me good. If that means I have to back off five times, then I'm going to back off five times before I have to actually hit the shot.
"Because for recreational golf, I understand. But for golfers that are trying to win and that one shot that could take you out of a playoff, that's important, and you need to make sure that you get everything correct. Because we're driven by results; we want to be the best and we want to do everything, but like the Average Joe just doesn't get it."
Day was triumphant in THE PLAYERS Championship, the WGC Dell Match Play and the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2016 and puts that down to being able to have the time to measure his shots.
He added: "I think that was just one of the things that I wasn't as deliberate that I should have been, and that's what I've got to try and do a lot more, is be a little bit more deliberate going into a shot and make sure I do everything correctly."
