John Giles: Celtic's future is bleak

"I think the future for Celtic is bleak because they can't compete with the resources that other teams have outside of Scotland.

"Even in Scotland with Rangers out of the picture and even with Neil Lennon there a few years ago when they did well, they still had to sell two of their players straight away in Gary Hooper and Vincent Wanyama.

"You can't build a team if you do that. But the resources are not there. There' is no television money in Scotland.

"They're a great club and they have great support but they can't even compete with Championship clubs who can buy players.

"Look at this year. What have Celtic bought this year? Very little!

"You can't do it without the money nowadays. The days of bringing lads on are gone.

"They cannot afford to invest to do well in the Champions League because it's a big gamble. You could get a very difficult draw in the qualifying rounds and you go out anyway.

"They are going to win the league with the team they have this year, there is no doubt about that, so where they are going to fail is when they step up to the Champions League because they have not got the resources to do it.

"There were times when they did [invest] in Lennon's time. They did well, they beat Barcelona and they actually made money.

"But they didn't buy players. They sold players which is heartbreaking for a manager, which is why Lennon left because he couldn't build anything there.
