Boxer John Joe Nevin remanded on bail over public order offences

Irish Olympic boxer John Joe Nevin has appeared in court on public order charges.

The 2012 silver medallist is one of five Mullingar men who were charged, arising from an incident on Dominick Street in Mullingar on April 6th last.

Mullingar District court heard that John Joe Nevin Nevin (25) - along with Paddy Nevin (21), both of 7 St. Anthony's Cottages, Joseph Nevin (20) of 7 Grange Park Meadows, David Nevin (25) of 4 The Moorings, Ballymahon Road and Christopher Nevin (23) 12 Grange Park were all in breach of the Public Order Act.

The five men are alleged to have been intoxicated in a public place, and using threatening or abusive behaviour.

Judge Seamus Hughes remanded the five men on bail to appear before him on May 21st.

He ordered them not to enter any licensed premises or consume intoxicating substances and placed them under a curfew.

John Joe Nevin is allowed to break his curfew if outside the jurisdiction training, or if he gets permission from the prosecuting garda.

Following a request by Inspector Jarlath Folan, the Distillery Pub on Dominick Street in Mullingar will be closed from 6pm tonight until 6pm on Wednesday next.
