Kenny Cunningham: "While the game is on - I’ve never taken an instruction from the manager"

Former Republic of Ireland International Kenny Cunningham believes it’s essential for a modern day managers to have a calm demeanour in order to communicate efficiently with players.

Speaking on this morning’s OTB AM. Cunningham said he never took instructions from a manager when the ball was out of play.

“I think you have to be. I think you have to be analyzing the game. You’ve got to be ahead; you’ve got to think 10 or 15 minutes down the road.”

The former Sunderland and Wimbledon says it doesn’t benefit the team when a manger is out of control, on the sideline.

“It doesn’t help if you’re actually out of control, emotionally like, if you’re all over the place. I don’t see the sense in that.”

Cunningham says it was impossible to take on instructions with loud crowds in the stadiums.

The Irishman says he only listened to managers during breaks in play.

“While the game is on - I’ve never taken an instruction from the manager, while the game is on. When the game is going on, and there are 30, 000 people inside the stadium. You’re just focused on the game.“
