Kevin Kilbane says ex-Man United player's get the pick of managerial positions

Kevin Kilbane says ex-Manchester United players get the pick of the jobs in British football. Kilbane also questioned newly appointed Wales’ manager Ryan Giggs’ coaching credibility.

The former Irish international joined this morning’s OTB AM to discuss the recent appointment of Ryan Giggs as Welsh International manager, and the possibility of Paul Scholes joining Giggs as part of his coaching staff.

The former Everton man says players during Alex Ferguson’s reign as Manchester United manager have largely been appointed coaching roles and head positions at clubs.

“I think Ex-Man United players. In general, do seem to get the pick of the jobs. ‘You only need to look across the course of the past twenty, thirty, forty years, whatever it would be?’ – Since Sir Alex Ferguson has gone in to Man United. Every single player that’s left, always seem to be saying, and has said; ‘have you learnt from what Alex Ferguson has said, and are you going to go on a take it forward?,’ said Kilbane

Kilbane says it all hasn’t gone to plan for player’s that are now managing, that formerly played under Ferguson. He says some of ex-players come across as arrogant in the managerial hot seat. Kilbane is unsure if that’s the right attribute for a manager to be successful.

“In general, it hasn’t all necessarily gone to plan. You can tell they are all very strong willed; that’s been entailed in them since they were small lads. That strong will might come across as arrogance a times. And not necessarily that humility, that’s needed to be a success in modern day coaching.”

The former Everton winger believes Giggs needs to make a big impression after embarrassing pre-match footage of a speech was recently leaked. The speech was from Giggs’ short reign short reign as Manchester United caretaker manager, following the sacking of David Moyes in 2014.

“I think this is a big test for Ryan Giggs. First of all, to maybe to get his reputation back on track. That’s what I would say. Secondly, I think his coaching credentials would have been called into question on a number of occasions. He need’s to get that back on track, too.”
